It’s interesting that in a recent survey those business people and entrepreneurs with less than four employees were most optimistic about opportunities. The websites to watch

Branding Image London 2012 Business Network, set up by the Olympic Delivery Agency, is the site to look at for information regarding Olympic opportunities. Small businesses can register via the site as suppliers. The site highlights, however, that many of the opportunities for small business will come as a result of sub-contracting opportunities offered by large companies with Olympic contracts. Games-related contract opportunities are published on the CompeteFor website. If you register via this site then you can receive alerts regarding future tender opportunities from ‘tier two’ suppliers or below. Learning from the Olympics

Whatever you thought of the 2008 Games you couldn’t fail to be impressed by the determination and commitment exhibited by competitors. There are many parallels with business and we can learn a lot from the attitude of elite athletes. Success is, I think, about: having a clear and detailed plan; sharing that plan with others and building the right support network; looking at every way in which you can improve your performance and results; monitoring what you are doing on an ongoing basis and being prepared to change when things aren’t working; putting in the time and effort to achieve your goals and never giving up. Those aspects apply whether you are an athlete or in business. Sometimes, it can be easy to get distracted from your goals – that’s why business coaches can be so valuable.
